How to Find Inspiration When You Need It

We've all been at that place where we need a little bit of inspiration, something to breathe new life into us and lift our spirits.  A bit of inspiration at the right time can leave you feeling refreshed, renewed, refocused, and ready to continue on with whatever you have ahead of you.
 
Here are some tried-and-true ways to find inspiration when you need it most.

 
Dive into a motivating and uplifting story:
Stories have been used for millennia as a way to provide encouragement and inspiration.  As we engage with characters and watch as they work their own trials and tribulations, hope is renewed.  We're reminded of what is possible even when the odds appear to be stacked against us.  Whether your preference is a book or a movie, the right story has the power to leave you feeling totally transformed and ready to take on the world!
 

Get out into nature:
There is something about getting out into nature that does wonders for the soul.  Maybe you enjoy outdoor activities that get your blood pumping and your heart racing.  Maybe you prefer something as simple as a walk or hike, taking in all the sights and sounds around you.  Maybe you appreciate gazing into the night sky with awe.  Ultimately, connecting with nature reminds us that the world around us is beautiful, complex, and carefully ordered; and we're reminded that we have our own unique and special place within that world. 
 
 
Listen to some music:
Music can have a profound effect on your mood and frame of mind.  Time spent listening to music (or playing an instrument) can take you on a powerful emotional journey, altering your brain chemistry and physiological state in the process.  Musical tastes and preferences differ widely from person to person; come up with your own personal song list that you can go to whenever you're in need of some inspiration.
 
 
Chat with a friend who brings out the best in you:
Among your circle of friends, there's probably one friend in particular who has the ability to bring out the best in you.  When you're feeling down, this is the friend who is able to pick you up.  When things seem dark and gloomy, this is the friend who shows you the light at the end of the tunnel.  When you're doubting yourself and your abilities, this is the friend who reminds you of the strengths you possess and all that you've accomplished in the past.  Reach out to this friend when you need inspiration (just be sure to show this friend some love and appreciation at other times, too!)
 
 
Meditate:
Sometimes, we need to slow things down in order to recharge and get back into gear.  Meditation is especially helpful when you're feeling overwhelmed, confused, distracted, uncertain, or in need of some fresh ideas.  By pausing and clearing your mind, you give yourself a mental and emotional rest.  This allows for a calmer emotional state, while making room for renewed mental energy.  It also paves the way for new ideas to emerge; you might find yourself making connections or arriving at thoughts that would not have happened otherwise.
