If You're a Misfit, You Likely Have These 5 Great Qualities

12/1/2020

If you see yourself as being a bit of a misfit, there are probably many times when you feel isolated, alone, and disconnected.  You may feel insecure at times, and find yourself thinking that life would be so much easier if you could just "be like everyone else."

The fact that you are NOT like everyone else may be challenging at times, but there's another side to it.  Misfits often possess wonderful and valuable strengths.

Here are 5 great qualities that can be found among the misfits of our world.

1. You're a Thinker.

Most misfits are deep and independent thinkers.  You're not willing to blindly accept everything you're told from family, friends, society at large, or the media.  You analyze and assess things for yourself.  You're not lazy-minded; you invest the time and effort to think things through, in order to see if they make sense.

2.  You Have Integrity.

Once you've thought something through, you're honest about your findings.  Does it hold up, or are there cracks and inconsistencies?  As a misfit, your sense of integrity makes it near impossible for you to go along with something you don't genuinely agree with or feel good about.  This means that you often don't fit in with the rest of the crowd that is going along with things; but at least your conscience is clear.

3.  You're Spiritual.

Why is integrity and a clear conscience so important to you?  Because you're deeply spiritual.  That doesn't necessarily mean that you follow a particular religion.  But inwardly, you're attuned to something bigger and more powerful than yourself, that guides your actions and decisions.  As a result, your values often differ from the values of the people around you.

4.  You're a Dot-Connector.

Why is it that things can be so obvious to you, yet no-one else can see them?  While most people are focused on the biggest, loudest, most urgent event that is happening immediately, you have the capacity to stand back and look at the big picture in order to connect the dots.  This enables you to acquire an entirely different perspective; and you're also able to see the places where things don't add up.  What's obvious to you often remains hidden from view for others.

5.  You're a Rock and a Refuge for Others.

Lastly, while misfits might not be part of the in-crowd, they are often a rock and a refuge for others in their time of need.  When someone is experiencing real pain and feeling desperate, they can't hide from that, and it can be a scary time.  The very qualities that make you a misfit also make you an excellent person to lean on and confide in.

The depth of your thinking, your integrity, your spirituality, and your ability to see the big picture and connect the dots, all make you a valuable asset as a friend and advisor.  You won't just offer empty platitudes; you connect and empathize in a sincere and powerful way.  You cut through the fog with your incisiveness, and you illuminate things with your insightfulness.

Takeaway:
If you view yourself as a misfit and find yourself struggling or feeling discouraged, recognize these amazing qualities that you possess and be confident that simply by being yourself, you have something unique and valuable to share with others.
