Selecting Your Sources for Coronavirus Information

Coronavirus concerns are top of mind for most people, as nearly everyone has been impacted by it in one way or another.  Worldwide, people are confined to their homes in "lock-down" mode, and subject to "social distancing" guidelines when they go outside.

Widespread shutdowns, the likes of which we've never witnessed before, are being implemented throughout society.  Even religious gatherings and funerals are subject to limits on the number of people who can congregate together at one time.

Given the widespread scale and impact of this event, should we be relying solely on mainstream media outlets for all of our information?

What is the mainstream media focusing on?

Mainstream media coverage has largely focused on infection counts, the death toll, and the ever-expanding shutdowns.  Such coverage, day after day, tends to promote feelings of fear, even panic, among people.  It can also foster a sense of helplessness and encourage blind obedience, whereby people feel compelled to follow whatever guidelines they receive without giving things a second thought.

What's missing from this is a deeper analysis of the situation that gets into every corner.  After all, worldwide people are altering their routines, changing their lives, and complying with an unprecedented set of social rules that some view as being even more strict than being on house arrest.  A comprehensive breakdown and analysis of the situation is definitely in order, and this won't necessarily come from mainstream news outlets.  Broadening one's media intake to include a variety of sources makes it possible to acquire a richer, fuller understanding of everything that is taking place.

What about nutritional information?

Another area where there's value in consulting a variety of alternative news sources concerns nutritional information, which has received little coverage in the mainstream media to date.  For instance, did you know you may be able to decrease your susceptibility to being infected with any virus simply by keeping your zinc levels up with a daily zinc supplement?  This is an easy, cost-effective, preventive measure anyone can take, yet this important and highly relevant information has not received the kind of coverage it deserves.

There's a huge body of research confirming the efficacy of zinc as a potent antiviral.  Medical practitioners are already exploring ways to integrate zinc into their regimens as they treat people who have been infected with the coronavirus.

In-depth geopolitical and economic analysis.

For those wishing to take an even deeper dive into things, it's essential to explore information sources beyond the usual mainstream news outlets.  Quite simply, you're going to hear a range of perspectives and opinions from independent researchers and journalists that you won't hear elsewhere.  Because these individuals aren't beholden to news corporations paying their salaries, they're able to express their true opinions, regardless of how much those opinions may differ from the mainstream narrative.

Especially when it comes to exploring geopolitical and economic aspects of the virus and its impact, independent sources can often bring a wealth of valuable information to the table.  In many cases, these individuals may have been digging deep into a particular arena for years already.  Therefore, they're able to analyze events surrounding the coronavirus with precision and incisiveness, since they possess the necessary knowledge and contextual understanding to do so.  They can offer a level of depth and breadth you won't find elsewhere.

More exposure means more to draw on.

Given the seriousness of the coronavirus, it's only fitting that we should all exercise discernment as we take in related information.  As you expand the sources of information that you rely on, you may find yourself encountering views that you don't subscribe to.  That's okay; there's no need to accept every statement made from a given source.  But exposure to a broad range of well-reasoned information and non-traditional viewpoints can be extremely valuable, as it provides something to draw on as you come to your own conclusions.

Don't limit yourself unnecessarily.  There are huge amounts of information and multiple viewpoints to be heard outside of the mainstream media, all of which will leave you better informed.  As the saying goes:  knowledge is power.
